Do you know "Shikabe Kanketsusen Park", a type of park which is extremely rare for this country? Kanketsusen
is a kind of hot spring, known as a geyser, that shoots hot water into the air (about 15 meters high) at about 10 minute intervals. Please visit and enjoy "Shikabe Kanketsusen Park", which was opened in April, 1999, so that you may become familiar with "Shikabe Kanketsusen" and geysers.
Strolling in the park, which is a Japanese style stone garden, will refresh you. If you feel like resting your feet try the footbath that uses hot water from the geyser. This footbath is an authentic hot spring, which is effective for the relief of nerve pain and sensitivity to cold, etc. ![]()

Shikabe Sea and Hot Springs (Ideyu) Festival is held in the middle of August every year. Celebrating summer, this is the biggest event in Shikabe. and is held at the fishery harbor. Various attractions for every age, such as the "Fureai Aquarium," where you can see and touch globefish and sardine, and the "Cutter Boat Race," which takes place inside the bay, await you. One of the most popular features of the festival is the fireworks display, which we boast of as the largest in southern Hokkaido. Big firework flowers lighting the night sky color the fishery harbor. Then, after enjoying the festival, take a rest in the Shikabe Hot Springs with a long soak! |

The surroundings around Hokkaido Komagatake Volcano (hereinafter referred to as Komagatake) are famous for their beauty and have been designated a seminational park. Komagatake, however, is also renowned as a volcano which erupts violently. It formed its present shape after repeated eruptions since it first spouted lava and pyroclastic flows about 30,000 years ago. Even within the last 10 years there have been more than 10 small-scale eruptions (phreatic explosions), and mountain climbing is restricted at the present time. There are five evacuation areas in the town, and we conduct evacuation training regularly in case of emergency. |
